Kids Journals
I'm not a huge scrapbooker, but I've tried to write down little tidbits from my kids lives. I'll be honest--Benjamin, my oldest child, has the most complete journal. After baby number three, I started keeping the journals on the computer. I've gone months at a time without writing a word, but then a child will say something clever or horrible, or very funny, and I'll write it down.
Lately I've been overwhelmed by the barrage of school papers/letters/report cards/ art projects stacking up on the shelf behind my computer. When Benjamin was in preschool, I bought three neat, oversized paper storage boxes at the Container Store. But four kids worth of school junk has piled up on top of the boxes (so the lids to the original boxes are now crushed beyond repair), and several times the pile has come cascading down all over the floor.
This isn't a new solution, but I finally started scanning in a few items I wanted a memory of but didn't necessarily need to keep. I decided to integrate the scans with the journals. I recently wrote about attending parent-teacher conference with Thomas, and then I added a few scans of writing assignments (he loves creative writing).
When my daughter had to be admitted to the hospital this fall, a couple of her friends wrote her "get well soon" notes. I scanned them into the computer and added them to the journal entries about her being sick.
If you don't love writing, just keep the scans in chronological order, or group them according to category (
